The Right Time To Write

Over the years, I’ve read as much as I could about how to become a great writer. One of the things I read over and over again was that the best time to do your writing was first thing in the morning. According to various writing experts, getting up early and writing first thing in the morning was the absolute best way to get the creative juices flowing. WRONG!!!!!!!

I am not a morning person. I can’t do anything before 9am and 3 pots of coffee. And there is no way I can be creative before noon. I’m a night owl. When the sun dips down below the horizon, that’s when I get the urge to start writing. I have to have just the right kind of lighting in my room, just the right music softly playing in the background, and no “family” distractions to get in my way. This is my best time to write.

Just because some people say you should write during a specific time of day doesn’t make it a law. Everyone is different. That’s a fact. So why is it that the experts feel that all writers should write at the same time? The best you’re going to get out of me in the morning will all come in the form of four lettered words. However, when it’s dark and quiet, my muse runs wild.

When is your favorite time to write? Are you a morning person who can jump out of bed and create perfect prose? Or are you like me, the kind of person who does their best work after dark? Leave us a comment and let us know when you do your best writing.

  1. For me the afternoon is the best time to actually write a post. However my thoughts always run wild at bed time and it often slows me from getting to sleep.

Maybe I should try writing then?

  2. LOL, you’d be amazed what pops into your head after dark.

Actually, there is no right answer. It all comes down to the individual. If you’re more comfortable writing in the afternoon, then trying to change your habits might not work so well. But then again, it never hurts to try.

If you do try writing at night, let me know what you came up with. LOL. It could be fun to read.
