2008 Writer’s Market

Ok, as I mentioned in our Sunday Seeds, as of today I’m going to have something special worked out for each day of the week. With today being the first day of the new year, I thought I’d make sure to jump in and get started. First and foremost, I want to grab the attention of those who are seriously thinking about getting into the field of freelance writing. One of the things you’ll need by your side is a copy of the 2008 Writer’s Market.

I haven’t been able to get my copy yet, but I will as soon as I can. I’ve bought a copy of this valuable book every year since 1990 and have found tons of great information, as well as the physical and e-mail addresses of thousands of publications that are actively seeking submissions. Some places will pay you a set amount of money, while others only pay in copies. However, that is sometimes better than the money, as you can always use these in a portfolio for future endeavors.

Plus, each year brings a whole new grouping of articles written for writers, by writers, on how to do everything from impress an editor, to bring them running to you. These books may only carry information on publications for each year, but the information included will keep you reading for many years to come.

Of all the books that can help you become a published writer in the new year, this is the one you really want by your side. It doesn’t matter if your writing fiction or non-fiction, there are listings in this book for your particular genre. I write a lot of poetry, and these books have helped me get published in the past. It’s one thing to see your work online, but to see it in print is a whole different ballgame.

Honestly, if you’re really wanting to become a freelance writer, or even if you’re just looking to get your name out there for others to notice, the 2008 Writer’s Market is a must have. I know as soon as I can, I will be getting my copy.

  3. Wow, thanks for letting me know about this book! I actually just writing my own book, a technical guide on Facebook development, and I don’t have much info on how to get it published or anything like that. Basically, I have a lot to learn! I’m definitely going to pick up a copy of this. Thanks!! :)

  7. @ Eliza, Thanks honey. I love these books. Every writer should have one.

@ Pandi, honestly, if you spend a little time just going through the listing, you will come up with tons of ideas to write about. It’s really amazing how many places they find that are looking for submissions.

  8. I had forgotten about those books. Years ago, and I mean years ago, I used to keep up with the Artist Market books. I had not even thought about the Writers Market book since I started blogging. I think I need to get both of those this year!

    Excellent review and idea.

    Thanks.

  9. Thanks David, I really appreciate that.

The funniest part of this is that I still have every single copy I ever bought, and I even have one that I won in a writing contest. It’s an old copy from 1977. That’s my favorite one. LOL

Thanks for stopping by and I hope your new year is starting out with a bang.
